Roadrunner Named 2017 Small Business of the Year by the City of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA, May 1, 2017 – Roadrunner, one of the fastest-growing and most diverse passenger transportation firms, today was named the 2017 Small Business of the Year by the City of Los Angeles. This award recognizes small businesses that have a history of outstanding business practices in the Los Angeles community and to honor the entrepreneurship, sustainability, service and effort put forth in a small business.

“We are honored and thankful for this award, which is largely due to our employees and their efforts. We would not be the company we are without their hard work, creativity, and talent,” said Brick Conners, Roadrunner’s Chief Executive Officer. “A successful business also needs the support of the communities around them, and we are thankful for the opportunities and growth here in Los Angeles.”

Roadrunner was one of many finalists for the award, receiving high marks for its outstanding management philosophy, business innovation, employee satisfaction, customer service and community involvement. Roadrunner values creating and maintaining lasting relationships with their customers, building the business on a firm foundation of strong interpersonal ties. Roadrunner’s customer service excellence was recognized by the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce and California’s 19th Senate District with a 2010 Small Business Recognition Award for their excellent support and dedication.

To select finalists, the City of Los Angeles required businesses to participate in a written application process. A team of business leaders conducted on-site visits and interviews with each finalist, which included Ray Boman of the Economic Development Collaborative – Ventura County Small Business Development Center. The winners were then announced at The Annual Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Small Business Recognition Ceremony, held May 1, 2017 at Los Angeles City Hall. More than 500 business leaders attended the event.

Roadrunner Shuttle & Limousine adds Solvang, Lompoc to its service area

Roadrunner Shuttle & Limousine Service recently secured contracts to manage the fixed-route and Dial-a-Ride services for the cities of Solvang and Lompoc.

As a result, the company will increase its workforce by 10 percent, adding a little more than 400 employees, said Charles Brad “Brick” Conners, the new chief executive officer.

Conners said Roadrunner will expand its currently operated airport shuttles, black car and limousine services, charter and fixed-route buses, general para transit and ADA Dial-a-Ride services into the Solvang and Lompoc areas.

Conners is a former naval officer and aviator who trained some of the country’s top ranking naval officers and pilots during his career.

The company, founded by Desmond and Sue Sandlin, celebrated its 25th anniversary July 1.

Its newest contracts will help it achieve its long-term strategies by spreading its services farther into Santa Barbara County, a company spokesman said.

“Our goal is to manage all private and public transportation services in the Tri-Counties,” said Charles Sandlin, chief operating officer. “We see a need for local leadership and enhanced oversight in providing quality transportation within the region, and we want to provide that.”

Roadrunner Contributes to #AidsLifeCycle

This past weekend Roadrunner Shuttle and Limousine provided shuttle service at a discounted rate for the Aids Life Cycle Bike Event. AIDS/LifeCycle is a fully supported, 7-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The bike ride took place June 5th – June 11 with a ride starting in Northern California and ending on the Sunny Coast of Southern California. The tour delivers a life-changing experience for thousands of participants from all backgrounds and fitness levels united by a common desire to do something heroic.

It’s easy to think that HIV/AIDS is no longer a problem. Medications have come a long way, and people are living longer, healthier lives. This is why the work of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center is so vital. These agencies continue to provide the critical services and education needed to meet the growing needs of our community. We ride to raise awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS among participants, their donors, and the general public. We ride because—in the current economy—our agencies need these funds more than ever. Ultimately, we ride so that someday, we won’t have to.
